Balloon Angioplasty
Balloon Angioplasty is an interventional cardiology procedure that is used to open a partially blocked coronary artery. The procedure is done on the local anesthetic.
The procedure is not painful and usually done on our patient basis. The catheter is introduced into a body through a large vessel in arm or leg and is a threaded through the blood vessels to a blocked corny artery. Doctors use a special radiological dye that helps to visualize the type, location, and size of the blockage. Once the catheter and balloon are guided to the region of blockage in coronary artery, the balloon is inflated, and the blockage is compressed and pushed aside. The balloon is then deflated and the catheter is retracted allowing oxygen rich blood flow to the hard muscle.
