Dr. Richard J. Frances, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.P.A. was educated at Columbia College, New York, New York with a B.S. in 1967. His studies were concentrated in Psychology, Art History and Oriental Studies. He gained his Graduate and Professional Level studies at the New York University Medical School in 1971.

His residencies included a Psychiatric Residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital/Jacobi Hospital in New York, New York from July 1971 to June 1974. It was there where he was a Chief Resident from July 1973 to June 1974. He completed his Psychoanalytic Training at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute in 1972 to1973 and 1976 to 1983. He was a Berry Plan Physician from July 1974 to June 1976 for the U.S. Navy Reserve for a two year active duty assignment at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington. He became the Director of the Alcohol Treatment Program for Outpatient Treatment.

Dr. Frances has a license to practice in the State of Connecticut and the State of New York. He was board-certified in 1976 by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was recertified in 2002. He passed specialty boards in Addiction Psychiatry, has added qualifications in Addictions by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1992 and was recertified in 2002. He has a Controlled Substance Registration for the Narcotics Certification. He has had teaching experience at Cornell and UMDNJ in the field of Psychiatry, including addictions.
